The rapid urbanization and the resultant increase in traffic congestion have prompted a reevaluation of traditional transportation systems. Innovations in urban transportation systems have become crucial in addressing these challenges, with autonomous vehicles emerging as a leading technology. This paper explores the integration of autonomous vehicles into urban transportation systems and the subsequent impact on efficiency, sustainability, and urban design. The analysis examines the technological advancements enabling autonomous driving, such as sensor fusion, machine learning, and communication technology. It further delves into the potential benefits, including reduced traffic accidents, optimized route planning, and enhanced accessibility for all users. However, the paper also acknowledges the challenges, including ethical considerations, data privacy concerns, and the potential displacement of traditional jobs. The study concludes by proposing strategies for the successful deployment of autonomous vehicles in urban environments, emphasizing collaboration between public authorities, technology providers, and the public to ensure a smooth transition towards a more sustainable and efficient transportation ecosystem.
